Introduction
Hello, I’m Tyson Gates, a passionate communicator with a fresh perspective on Public Relations. A proud 2023 graduate of Winona State University, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and a minor in Applied and Professional Writing. I believe in the power of words to shape perceptions and build connections.
Recently, I completed an internship at Riverland Energy Cooperative, where I contributed to their communications department, gaining practical experience in adaptability, creativity, and strategic writing.
Since then, I started working as an Activities Director at Caretta Senior Living - Holmen where I've been able to continue practicing social media management. And a variety of other skills.
I invite you to explore my web portfolio, which highlights the growth I've made throughout my career.
Campaigns Work
Campaigns is the capstone project at Winona State University that simulates theory and practical application of Public Relations concepts by bringing real-world clients to present organizational goals. Students then create a full campaign to achieve the organizational goal, including deliverables.
On top of the three campaigns, we had to run a trade show to present our agency to the client.
This project helped me in my professional development immensely. It helped my project turnaround and productivity since we only had 3 weeks to develop each ~40 page campaign. Since a large point for Cameron's Coffee was an ability to ground strategy in research, this became a large part of my contribution to the group. My personal favorite was the second campaign shown below.
Campaigns Deliverables
I formulated a strategic roadmap to enhance brand recognition by orchestrating Cameron's Coffee job fair events that spanned various venues and Universities across the Midwest. This was to effectively target the student demographic, which was our first organizational objective.
Additionally, as part of our client engagement with Cameron's Coffee, we organized a prominent trade show featuring diverse attractions, including a hands-on seed planting station. As a hand-out I developed a flyer with clear instructions on how to plant the seeds.

Visual Comm. Projects
In this section, I've included various, projects that I've worked on over the course of my internship as well as their purpose.
This includes:
Cooperative Principle Poster (Brand Positioning)
Project Evergreen Advertisement (Promote Renewable Energy)
Photo Contest Promotion (Engagement Booster)
Cooperative Month Social Post (Congratulatory)
Energy Vampires Pamphlet (Informative)
Government Writing
This first project that I worked on in my Government writing course where the assignment was to edit a University web page to make it clear, concise, and visually interesting. I'm very proud of how this one turned out and it was a great way to practice writing at a readable level.
The second project in this section is from the same class. It was practicing many of the same principles. Foremost, writing in a way that conveys importance without overwhelming the reader. We rewrote the Clarke Memo to be more easily understood in a way that conveys the importance of the document.
